A.M. then P.M.

The lake -- oh, the lake.

This morning:

I walked to Tunnel Park along the streets this morning, then came back along the beach.

It was pretty calm, and the ridge of ice just off shore was fascinating.  By late morning the wind was showing some teeth.  And by sunset, the lake was roaring.

Pointing the camera into the sun doesn't work all that well, but that's where the lake is.

I live here, and I don't see this kind of wave action very often.  This is what gale force winds look like.

No Fat Bikes Required

A bike ride in February, in Michigan, is a rare enough event to be blog worthy -- to me, at least.  Though just before I took the photo below, a couple rode down the bike path on coordinating Salsa fat bikes.  Not matching, mind you -- that was their puffy jackets -- but the same style fat bike in different colors.  I hope they were headed to the beach for a ride, since the current condition of nearly all rideable surfaces is such that fat bikes are not required.

The temperature was in the low 40's with no noticeable wind.  I have the gear for that.  In fact the reason I had stopped here, other than to get a photo of the path, was to unzip a few layers to vent some of the excess body heat.  One of the things I considered while I was in Florida recently was the purchase of a fat bike once I returned to Michigan.  It seems unlikely now.
