January in a few photos

After spending the first week of January in Michigan, I expected to be able to resume outside activities when I got to Florida.  Other than a couple of bike rides, it hasn’t worked out that way.  It’s been near constant rain this past week, with winds and thunderstorms accompanied by much below normal temperatures.  And somewhere I picked up a cold virus, making activity even more challenging.  My guest from the Tundra arrived on the 12th, as scheduled, so that’s been a bright spot.  We shoehorned in a few outdoor excursions, and she’s been a good sport about it.  She’s been here several times — so a movie instead of a beach walk seems mostly okay.  But still.  Anyway, here are a few photos from the last week.

First Bike Ride of 2024

It was cool enough for tights and a windbreaker, but sunny with just a light breeze.  14.4 miles to start things off.  I’ve been off the bike for over 2 weeks, but fortunately I remembered how it all works.  Photo taken at Kiwanis Park, roughly half way.

Same place, different year.

The trip south was no harder than usual, some de-icing of the plane was required.  Winter hadn’t settled in yet in Michigan, but it was close.

The top photo is today, the bottom one is from yesterday.

The view is similar from both places, sort of.  I like them both.  Too windy today to bike, or even walk, with wind gusts in the 40’s.  The first ride of the year will have to wait a day.

The New Year

The Grandkids and I spent New Year’s Eve watching the 3 latest episodes of Dr. Who with one of our neighbors.  Snacks were had, it was a good evening.  More people arrived around 9 ish, and well before midnight the three of us made our way back across the street and I retired early.

The girl and I did some post holiday shopping today then took a walk around the neighborhood in a light snowfall.  Not a bad way to begin a new page on the calendar.  Happy New Year to all.
